. • Bluffton ATA Martial Arts has opened a new location at 1 Sherington Drive, Suite D in Bluffton.

Rita Moore, owner of the business, will serve as the chief instructor, with Christina Diaz as program manager, Daniel Valdez as instructor, and Bruce Bartolotto as the manager of business development.

Moore is a second degree black belt; Diaz is a first degree black belt; and Valdez is a first degree black belt and instructs all classes.

Bartolotto brings years of sales and public relations experience. He also provides support and instruction during classes.

  • Chad T. Zehms, MD, has joined the team of surgeons at Optim Orthopedics and will be treating patients at Optim's new South Carolina locations in Bluffton and Hilton Head.

Dr. Zehms is a board-certified, fellowship-trained surgeon specializing in orthopedic sports medicine surgery for musculoskeletal injuries. His procedures include hip arthroscopy with advanced techniques in labral repair and reconstruction.

Notably, Optim has the only two surgeons between the Lowcountry, Atlanta and Jacksonville who perform hip arthroscopy.

Recent experience includes chairman of the sports medicine department at Prevea Health in Green Bay, Wisc., as well as chairman of sports medicine at the James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center.

In addition, Dr. Zehms served as the trauma consultant for the Green Bay Packers from 2014 to 2017 seasons and, from 2008 to 2009, provided coverage for the U.S. Olympics Women's Ski Team.

Dr. Zehms received his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.

An officer in the U.S. Navy, he completed his surgical internship and orthopedic residency at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Va. Dr. Zehms is a graduate of one of the most prestigious sports medicine fellowship programs in the world, the Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, Colo.

  • Christopher Corkern, with The Prudential Insurance Co. and President of The Corkern Group, Ltd. recently attended the company's President's Conference in Hawaii.

  • J. Banks Design Group has announced the addition of new staff to the award-winning firm.

Mandy Power will be working as an interior design assistant and is tasked with supporting residential projects. In her position, Power will work in tandem with the firm's residential designers to assist with all facets of the project from conceptual design to installation.

She has a degree in Interior Design from the Art Institute of Ohio.

Anne Wright has joined the staff in a newly formed position of design and administrative assistant. In this role, Wright will provide administrative support to the firm's director of design support and be an additional resource to residential and commercial projects, assisting with various tasks as needed.

She has a degree in Interior Design from Radford University.

Shelby Quevedo, a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, has been hired as procurement lead. Quevedo will ensure all furniture and materials ordered for the firm's projects move from vendor to client, and will lead the department in its effort to exceed client expectations.

She has several years of logistics and brand management experience.

  • Coastal Long Term Rental Company LLC, which has been serving property owners, investors and renters on Hilton Head Island for 30 years, has opened a location in Bluffton, at 7 Simmonsville Road, Suite 100A.

The company is owned and operated by Laura Wuller, a Hilton Head Island resident since 2003. She took ownership of the company in 2013, after years of experience in both the corporate and small business side of the rental business.

Coastal Long Term Rental Company manages long-term homes and villas (12-month or longer leases) across Hilton Head and the Bluffton area. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

  • The Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce will host its annual State of the Region luncheon Oct. 26 at the Marriott Resort and Spa on Hilton Head Island. Registration and networking begin at 11 a.m., and the program and lunch begin at noon.

Keynote speaker is U.S. Sen. Tim Scott. The event also features Gov. Henry McMaster with a special welcome.

Bluffton Mayor Lisa Sulka, Hilton Head Mayor David Bennett and Beaufort County Council Chairman Paul Sommerville have also been invited to address constituents on the pressing topics in their area.
