Eighty-five people from across Bluffton gathered the evening of Aug. 8 for a community prayer vigil and gun violence protest.

The event, led by clergy and local activists, provided an opportunity to express anger and heal in the wake of the gun violence in El Paso and Dayton.

Speakers included Therese Donlan Lee, senior minister at Unity of Hilton Head; Aimee Deverall of Bluffton, an immigration attorney; and Kevin Lopez of Bluffton, who was born in Honduras moved here when very young. He is now in law school.

The event was held in the parking lot of Pan Fresco Ole on Bluffton Parkway.
