The Bluffton Trading Post Gourmet Market and Beer Emporium has opened its doors at 1230 May River Rd in the old Scott's Market.
Imbued with a feel of a traditional Southern general store, where locals make purchases then stay to "set a spell," the Trading Post offers a vast selection of craft beers, fine wines and specialty foods, as well as a boutique marketplace with art from local artists, gift items, souvenir T-shirts and gourmet food items.
A grand opening week is planned for Nov. 12-17, featuring live entertainment nightly from Adam Martin, Bob Myhre, The Dave Washack Experience, John Brewster and others.
Amos Hummell and Kristen Griffis, locals whose art is available for sale in the marketplace, will be on hand for Friday Happy Hour, 5-7 p.m. Nov. 15, as well as 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 16, and noon to 4 Nov. 17.
This is an opportunity to meet two of the artists whose work adorns the walls of the establishment and is available for purchase.
Guests can also meet brewery reps and wine professionals, who can answer questions about the variety of beverages offered at the Trading Post.
Daily food specials will be available from the BTP Café 1230, along with beer and wine tastings.
The space is as much about meeting up with friends, during the day or night. Large tables provide room to spread out for a work meeting place, or share a meal with companions.
"The beer selection at BTP is unmatched in the area," said owner Mark Weisner. "Beers come from around the world and from right here in the Carolinas."
There are 12 rotating beers on tap. Customers can have a pint onsite or take a bottle, case or keg home with them. BTP is the home of the Bluffton Bold Beer Society.
There are two large coolers of non-alcoholic and refreshing drinks including fresh juices, hand-crafted soda, seltzer, kombucha, coffee, teas and energy drinks.
The menu at BTP is fast casual with dishes that pair well with beer and wine, featuring freshly baked Phat Breads, cheese plates, veggie plates, boiled peanuts, soft pretzels, and more.
In the specialty food section of the market, there is a wide variety of gourmet items to enhance meals, including mustards, vinegars, olive oils and sauces. Customers also will find a selection of local and imported sweets including Belgian Chocolates, local hand-dipped chocolates, Shriver's famous Salt Water Taffy, frozen ice pops and hard ice cream.
In addition to its own events, Bluffton Trading Post is available to host private events, meetings and parties - large or small.
"The Trading Post is a place where you can immerse yourself in the moment and enjoy great beer, fine wines, specialty foods, unique gifts and more," Weisner said. "We promise good friends, good times, and good music and want you to try something new and unique every day."
