Dr. Joe D. Haines Jr., a family medicine specialist with more than 35 years of high-level military and civilian medical experience, has joined Beaufort Memorial Bluffton Primary Care.
Prior to moving to the Lowcountry this summer, Dr. Haines served as senior medical officer at DeWert Naval Branch Medical Clinic in the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport, Calif. Earlier in his career, he was a member of the family practice staff at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, N.C., and a group surgeon, wing surgeon and senior medical officer at several other Marine Corps installations around the world.
Throughout his military career, he has been recognized with several awards and commendations, including the Air Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal (Desert Storm), National Defense Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Medal.
As a civilian, Dr. Haines has practiced at family medicine and urgent care clinics in North Carolina and Oklahoma.
An honors graduate with a B.S. in Premedical Science from Oklahoma State University, Dr. Haines completed his Doctor of Medicine degree and residency at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Tulsa; his residency in Aerospace Medicine at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute in Pensacola, Fla.; and his Master of Public Health at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md.
He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice.
