Town of Bluffton to host first Lutzie 43 Road Race Aug. 3


In partnership with the Lutzie 43 Foundation, the Town of Bluffton will host its first Lutzie 43 Road Race Aug. 3. The 5K course will run through the Historic District, starting at 7:30 a.m.

The Lutzie 43 Foundation started the Road Race in 2014, shortly after Philip Lutzenkirchen's passing, in Marietta, Ga., and has grown to feature remote runs around the country.

In April, the Town of Bluffton partnered with the Lutzie 43 Foundation in a campaign to reduce distracted driving, which was the cause of Lutzenkirchen's death.

A portion of Bluffton runner registrations will go towards providing a Lutzie 43 PFL (Prepared for Life) Scholarship to one local Bluffton student.

Runners who register before July 23 will receive an official race shirt. To register, visit

Cost is $21 for runners 21 years and younger, and $30 for all others. Early bird discounted registration ends July 4.
