The Don Ryan Center for Innovation (DRCI) has announced the addition of two new innovators joining the Bluffton-based business accelerator.

The two startups, RightNowHelp and Beach Biscuit, which have been working remotely, will be the first innovators to join the DRCI at its soon-to-open new home at The HUB at Buckwalter Place - a new space designed to meet the growing needs of local innovators.

The HUB will serve as the center for innovation and economic development in Beaufort County.

RightNowHelp, founded by Karam Tascoe, connects customers who need chores completed with background-checked, self-employed providers who are able to earn money using their skills on their own schedule.

The startup entered the DRCI Business Incubation Program in March 2020 and anticipates graduating from the program in March 2021.

BeachBiscuit is a 3-year-old company, founded by Melissa Christian, that started out making organic treats, and has expanded into high-end, custom-made dog collars and other custom, sewn dog accessories. Products are sold both online and in a handful of local stores.

BeachBiscuit joined the Business Incubation Program in May, with an anticipated graduation in May 2021.

"As we get ready to officially open the doors of The HUB, we're excited to welcome these companies to our Startup program and provide them each with the business support and resources that can help them as they move forward in the next stages of their company's development and growth," said Mike Levine, CEO of DRCI. "We look forward to helping these two companies grow."

The HUB is on track to open as soon as possible in light of current restrictions on local businesses due to COVID-19, and is currently accepting applications from businesses interested in being part of the DRCI Startup program, and for existing businesses looking to grow their businesses or recover from the recent shutdown.

To help businesses respond to the business disruption being faced today, and provide them with the resources they need to help plan for recovery and further growth, the DRCI is offering free annual membership and free rent at The HUB for one year.

The Startup program provides resources for entrepreneurs, startups and early-stage businesses in order to launch and grow their companies. Innovators selected to be a member of the program are guided by a team of established business growth experts, composed of some of the Lowcountry's most successful entrepreneurs and experienced professionals, with a wide range of connections at the local, state and national level.

To date, the DRCI has graduated more than 35 startups from this Incubation program.
