Town seeks public comment, support for park improvements

The public is invited to review and comment on proposed work and an environmental assessment completed for improvements to New Riverside Park off Hwy. 46. in Bluffton.

The Town of Bluffton intends to develop a passive park to address recreational capacity issues of a rapidly growing population. The Town will apply for grant funds to be used to develop a perimeter walking trail, inclusive playground, picnic shelter and open lawn area at the 37-acre site. The total cost estimate is $1 million, of which $300,000 will be a grant request, and $700,000 matching funds.

In accordance with federal requirements, the Town requested review by the S.C. Department of Archives and History and the Tribal Historic Preservation Office to ensure that historic, cultural, archaeological and tribal interests are not impacted adversely by the proposed project. In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act, an environmental assessment has been prepared to identify any potential negative impacts to the environment. The project map and environmental documents are available for review at Town Hall, 20 Bridge St.

Comments will be received by the Town of Bluffton by noon March 26. Interested parties may submit comments and-or show support for the project to Felicia Roth, Procurement & Grants Administrator, at or 843-706-7816.
