William Whalley, left, built the Harbour Town Lighthouse for Charles Fraser in 1969.
Nadia Wagner, right, is the current lighthouse keeper. Last year, Wagner and photographer Jeff Keefer interviewed Whalley on video. Whalley died earlier this year, on Jan. 29. Asked what they thought Whalley might have said about the plaid lighthouse, Wagner said, "I really believe that Mr. Whalley would have loved the plaid on the lighthouse. I only wish that he could have been here to see it." Keefer said, "Actually I think he would like it, but his words might be something like this: 'I had to paint it three times to get the color right for Charles. I am glad he didn't ask me to paint it plaid!' " The video with Whalley is available on the Facebook page for the Harbour Town Lighthouse Museum.
