Bluffton Town Council is seeking qualified applicants for appointment to its boards, commissions and committees.
The most immediate need for new appointees are for the Negotiating Committee, two vacancies; Municipal Election Commission, one vacancy; Affordable Housing Committee, one vacancy for a member who represents the real estate industry; and the Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals, four vacancies for members with specific construction credentials.
Brief descriptions of these committees and board follow:
Negotiating Committee (six members): Tasked with assisting Town Council by coordinating and negotiating on behalf of the Town with applicants, property owners, and their representatives to define proposals, terms, and commitments related to annexation petitions, development agreements and any subsequent modifications.
Municipal Election Commission (three members): Supervises and manages municipal elections, certifies results and conducts protest hearings as needed. Meetings scheduled as necessary; six-year terms. Registered voters only.
Affordable Housing Committee (seven members, specific category slots): Tasked with assisting and advising Town Council on the establishment of affordable housing criteria for Town-sponsored projects and initiatives; defining Town’s affordable housing goals, guidelines, policies, and funding mechanisms. Meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. at Town Hall, unless otherwise posted. This vacancy is to fill the realtor slot.
Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals (nine members): Required to hear and decide appeals of orders, decision, or determinations of the Building Official per the South Carolina Code of Laws, Section 6-9-10(A). Meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m., unless otherwise notified. The Board is seeking an engineer, an electrical contractor, a general contractor and a residential homebuilder to fill the specific four openings.
The Town welcomes applications for all boards, committees and commissions regardless of current vacancies. Though qualifications for appointment may vary for each board, committee or commission, most appointments require residency within the Town of Bluffton.
Applications are kept on file for two years and there are vacancies that occur throughout the year. Applicants will be considered for any vacancies for which they might qualify that occur during the time their application is on file.
