Locally owned volunteer theatre company Coastal Stage Productions is looking for an ensemble of seven talented actors who are ready to jump into the wonderful world of Becky Foster.
Auditions for “Becky’s New Car” will be held at 7 p.m. March 12 at the Beaufort Jasper Water and Sewer Authority community room, 6 Snake Road in Okatie. The local production will be directed by Luke Cleveland.
The 2010 play by Steven Dietz is a thoroughly original audience participation comedy with delicious deadpan humor and U-turn plot twists. It’s a devious and delightful romp down the road not taken.
Rehearsals will begin March 13 in Jasper County. Performances begin May 18 for two weekends at The Shed Event Venue, 809 N. Paris Ave., Port Royal, and one weekend in Dillon.
Characters are:
Becky Foster (45-55): The center of the story. Charming, funny, engaging, honest, charismatic. She is a wife and mother.
Joe Foster (45-55): Becky’s husband. Strong, pragmatic, honest, sharper than he looks and a loyal family man.
Chris Foster (23-28): Becky and Joe’s son. Graduate student studying psychology; smart, funny, easy-going.
Walter Flood (50-65): A very wealthy businessman recently widowed. He is charming, friendly, gentle.
Kensington Flood (23-28): Walter’s daughter; pretty, cynical, smart, spoiled.
Steve (40-55): A recently widowed car salesman; neurotic, emotional, clueless.
Ginger (45-55): Walter’s single neighbor; jaded, funny and lonely.
Ages are flexible. Auditions will consist of readings from the script, which is available online. Actors should arrive prepared to list previous acting experience and to read with other actors. A production schedule will be provided.
