For the 12th year, Home Instead Senior Care will sponsor its Be A Santa To A Senior program.

Begin Nov. 1, paper ornaments will be available at area businesses for participants to choose. On each ornament is written the name of a local senior who is isolated and has no family support, as well as three desired gift items.

Individuals take an ornament, fulfill the wishes and return the unwrapped gifts, with ornament attached, to the host outlet by Nov. 19. The gifts are then retrieved by Home Instead, wrapped and delivered to the seniors before Christmas.

The names of seniors without family support or who would otherwise not have Christmas are given to Home Instead by the managers of local care communities, senior residential apartments or community programs, such as Meals on Wheels. This year, 605 seniors’ names were shared.

The program is made possible by the support of organizations, church groups, neighborhoods, businesses and numerous volunteers and members of the community. Through this program, lonely seniors discover that they have not been forgotten and that people still care.

Ornaments will be available at Markel’s Card and Gift Shop at Kittie’s Crossing in Bluffton, Curves of Bluffton, any CoastalStates Bank location, and the Hilton Head Senior Center.
