For anyone who is fascinated by watching the weather and is willing to help the National Weather Service (NWS) as it pertains to reporting severe weather in Beaufort County, here is an opportunity to become a Storm Spotter.

The National Weather Service Office in Charleston will hold a Storm Spotter training course at 10 a.m. Jan. 28 at the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office northern headquarters, 2001 Duke St. in Beaufort.

Storm Spotter training includes a brief introduction to the NWS, different types of hazardous weather and how to safely observe them, the various types of severe weather to report, and how to send reports to the NWS.

No experience in weather observing is necessary to attend this training. The training is free of charge and open to the public; however, seats are limited.
