LowCountry Community Church (LCC) is partnering with area businesses to collect shoes for families in need through the One Step Back-to-School Shoe Drive. The church and partner businesses are collecting new pairs of shoes from children’s size 10 through adult’s size 16 until July 29.

The One Step Back-to-School Shoe Drive began in 2015 and has raised over 1,000 pairs of shoes for children in need. LCC is partnering with six local businesses to collect and distribute shoes before area kids head back to school.

“There are shoe drop-off centers at LCC, Wells Fargo, Powerhouse Gym, Corner Perk, Salon 1050e, and the Bluffton Self Help Partners,” said Benedette McGuire, LCC Missions and Outreach director. “It is incredibly humbling to work with members of our community to make a difference.”

McGuire said the need has only increased over the years. This year, she hopes that the community can gather more than 700 pairs of shoes.

“The need last year was so great that we ran out of shoes during the last shift,” McGuire said. “We raised over 500 pairs of shoes, and it was heartbreaking to see kids have to walk away when we ran out, especially since they were something they desperately needed.”

After this month’s collection, the shoes will be distributed at Bluffton Self Help from 11:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3:15 to 6:15 p.m. Aug. 8 and 15. Volunteers are needed to help distribute shoes for each shift.
