The next 10-week session of Brain Boosters will begin April 21 at Memory Matters, 117 William Pkwy. on Hilton Head Island. Classes will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. every Thursday.
Topics include memory retraining techniques, how healthy habits enhance brain function, tools for stress reduction, how to remember names, and brain games and challenges.
The course, which helps attendees maintain a healthy brain, is held just three times a year.

Louis Costa III, D.M.D. has joined the practice of Beaufort Family Dentistry.
Originally from Charleston, Dr. Costa received his undergraduate degree in biology from The Citadel and his Doctor of Dental Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina.
Dr. Costa, along with his wife and two children, have lived in Bluffton for the past four years. He is a member of the American Dental Association and the South Carolina Dental Association.

Kristen Pagulayan, LCSW has joined Whole Health, a counseling practice in Bluffton.
After several years working with, and specializing in working with, children and families, Pagulayan now works in the field of geriatrics.
She began this new direction in the field of skilled nursing as a facility social worker as well as admissions and marketing director. She later transitioned to a behavioral health consulting company in which she provided an array of services in skilled nursing facilities in Connecticut.
In this role she provided behavioral interventions, psychotherapy, as well as education and support to staff and families on the complex issues of aging. As a result, she is skilled not only in behavioral interventions for those patients in the beginning to end stages of dementia, she is able to counsel staff and family working with such patients.

John Searles Jessica Lowthe
Board certified plastic surgeon John Searles and nurse practitioner Jessica Lowther have begun seeing patients at SunGate Medical Group’s new Island Medical Spa in Beaufort.
Dr. Searles specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery for skin cancer, breast surgery, facial plastic surgery, liposuction and body contouring.
He completed his residency in general surgery and a head and neck fellowship at Emory University, followed by a three-year residency in plastic surgery at Eastern Virginia Medical School.
Lowther’s expertise is in dermatology and plastic surgery. She will attend to patients needing skin exams, skin cancer diagnoses, skin diseases, as well as adolescent and adult acne treatments.
Lowther earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of South Carolina, and worked with a Mohs surgeon prior to joining SunGate. She is certified as a family nurse practitioner by the American Nurse Credentialing Center.

The Beaufort-Jasper Water & Sewer Authority (BJWSA) has contracted with Coastal Carolina Medical Associates, a primary care clinic of Coastal Carolina Hospital, to provide wellness and medical services for its employees.
The clinic, will provide employment physicals, return to work screenings, vaccines and drug screens for employees at BJWSA. In addition, the hospital will offer other resources such as speakers for company wellness seminars and participate in company health fairs.
According to the American Heart Association, American employers are losing an estimated $225.8 billion a year because of healthcare expenses and health-related losses in productivity.
