The Road Runners Club of America (RRCA), the oldest and largest national association of running organizations, has selected the Hilton Head Island Marathon as the RRCA South Carolina State Marathon Championship for the second consecutive year.
The Road Runners Club of America has dedicated itself to growing the sport of running since 1958. “This is a huge honor for us to receive this two years in a row from such a prestigious organization. It is a testament to the hard work and coordination by so many agencies and volunteers,” said Mark Weisner, race director.
RRCA membership includes running clubs, training programs, running events, runners, walkers, coaches, sponsors, and supporters. The goal of the RRCA Championship Event Series is to shine a spotlight on well-run events and to award top performing runners in the open, masters (40+), grand masters (50+), and senior grand masters (60+) categories for both men and women.
The 2018 Publix Hilton Head Island Marathon, Half Marathon & 8K will be held Feb. 10 starting at 8 a.m. Runners will depart from Jarvis Creek Park and follow a course that will take them over the Cross Island Parkway and through parks and neighborhoods.
Publix Marathon Race Day will also feature an 8K Run and Children’s Fun Run. More than 1,200 runners of all ages are expected to compete in the three events.
The event will benefit several local charities.
