On behalf of the Board of Trustees and staff of the Bluffton Historical Preservation Society, I want to say thank you to Keller Williams Realty for allowing its employees to volunteer at the Teel House.

These employees validated the spirit of Keller Williams International Corporate Red Day in giving back to the community in which they work.

There was much to do, and the Red Day Keller Team accomplished a lot at the red-doored Teel House. They helped clear some remaining Hurricane Mathew debris, removed some very large limbs from the fallen big oak, cleaned and rearranged the storage shed and touched up the landscaping. All things have needed to be done for some time now.

It is businesses like Keller Williams and their employees who make Bluffton a special place. Thank you, Team Keller Williams, for your work at the Teel House.

Programs for Exceptional People (PEP) celebrated the grand opening of its Bluffton Satellite April 28. The festivities also included an official ribbon cutting for PEP’s Ceramic Art Studio.

PEP’s artists were onsite and displayed their work, and select pieces were available for purchase in the retail section of the facility. Board and staff members shared information about all of PEP’s initiatives and opportunities, including the Lawn and Garden micro-business, the PEP Print Shop, and the Recreation and Leisure program.

We would like to recognize publically the many partners and friends of PEP who made this new venture possible.

The Community Foundation of the Lowcountry provided the term resources for 12 months of occupancy at the new location. Other partners include United Way of the Lowcountry, Berkeley Hall Charitable Foundation, Belfair 1811 Charitable Fund, the Bluffton Sam’s Club, St. Francis Thrift, Heuser Ace Hardware, BB&T – Carswell Insurance, and Charter One Realty.

Many thanks also to PEP volunteer Judy Russell, who helped the design the interior of the facility, and to our artist and instructor Kara Altman who transformed the former office space into a working instructional environment.

Programs for Exceptional People has served adults from its Hilton Head locations since 1995. PEP is a state licensed and accredited Adult Activity Center whose mission is to promote independence, social interaction, and employment opportunities for adults who live with intellectual disabilities. Thank you to the entire community that supports our efforts.

The Arts Center of Coastal Carolina wishes to thank our generous foundation grantors who have supported our arts education and community outreach programs this past year. They include: The Bargain Box, The Beaufort Fund, Palmetto Kiwanis, Concours d’Elegance/Driving Young America, The Heritage Classic Foundation, HHI Association of Realtors and Mortgage Lenders, Island School Council for the Arts, South Arts though the National Endowment for the Arts, South Carolina Arts Commission, The Speer Foundation, The Winthrop Fund and The Women’s Association of Hilton Head.

We are especially grateful for their sponsorships which provide support for our comprehensive arts education programs such as ArtsReach in-school and after-school programs, Arts Center field trips, dance Master Classes, and our current STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) summer theatre and visual arts camps.

With support, these educational programs, as well as our three free community festivals and many other arts programs for youth and adults, are available and accessible to more than 10,000 children and their families throughout our community. Thank you to those of you who supported Family Promise of Beaufort County at our recent Dreaming of Home Gala by not only attending, but bidding on the silent and live auction items, raising your paddle during the “ask,” or donating if you were unable to attend.

The “ask” portion of our event was more important than ever, and with your support we have secured funding for almost half the cost of a new, safer and more reliable 15-passenger bus to transport our precious cargo.

Reliable and safe transportation is vital to the success of our Shelter Program. It is used to bring our families to and from our congregations, our childcare providers and the Boys and Girls Club each day.

Additionally, we transport families to medical appointments, employment interviews, housing searches, and their places of employment. Repairs on our current 9-year-old van have been astronomical over the past two years, as was the rental while our van was in the shop for repairs. These were funds that could have been put to better use by directly assisting our families.

On behalf of our board of directors, staff and the families we serve, thank you for your support.
