Organizers of the Hilton Head International Piano Competition, now in its 25th season, are pleased to announce that 20 pianists, ages 13 to 17, were chosen by the Selection Jury in November from 110 applicants from 16 countries, including Australia and New Zealand.
The pianists will compete on Hilton Head Island March 9-14, 2020. They were selected from a record number applicants for the young artist competition. Included are 13 males and 7 females representing seven countries: Russia, Canada, United States, Japan, South Korea, China and Thailand.
The contestants are: Solomon Ge, Catherine Huang, Tyler Kim, Katherine Liu, Angeline Ma, Oscar Paz-Suaznabar, Adrian Romoff, Kasey Shao, Andrew Shi, Naomi Yamaguchi and Hans-Derek Yu, all of the United States; Kevin Chen and Joshua Wong from Canada; Ruisi Lao and Hao Rao from China; Pyotr Akulov from Russia; Ryunosuke Kishimoto from Japan; Jinyoung Kweon from South Korea; and Ariya Laothitipong from Thailand.
Rounds I and II will be held March 9-12 at Central Church, with the finals to be held March 14 at First Presbyterian Church, with John Morris Russell and the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra performing.
