The Port Royal Sound Foundation will host “Around the Sound,” an on-going outdoor activity for families from July 1 to Aug. 31. In addition to fun, the event will help keep the Port Royal Sound clean and healthy.
Families will create a team and map out their 2020 “staycation” by exploring the 2,000-plus square miles of the Port Royal Sound watershed. Walk, run, bike or paddle the area’s trails, beaches and waterways throughout the time period, while raising money for research of the watershed.
Teams of any size may register for free at bit.ly/around-the-sound. Each team will commit to logging 20-plus miles over the course of the two months, while asking friends and family to support the team with donations.
Teams can share photos and comments about their miles traveled and places they visit on social media.
The fundraising goal of the event is $50,000. Proceeds will go to the Foundation’s Sound Research program.
The Port Royal Sound Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to preserving the sound for the environmental, cultural and economic well-being of the area. The Foundation is committed to education, research, conservation and sustainability.
