The Town of Bluffton’s 20th annual May River Cleanup, scheduled for May 2, has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In lieu of this event, the Town is encouraging residents to participate in a virtual Neighborhood Cleanup throughout South Carolina’s stay-at-home order.
The virtual Neighborhood Cleanup gives families an opportunity to contribute to the overall well-being of Bluffton as we protect the May River and our regional natural resources and marine species from litter and pollution.
Participants should practice social distancing while cleaning up litter in their own neighborhoods. All are invited to take a photograph of their efforts and share them on the Town’s social media venues such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, with the hashtag #loveblufftonsc.
Participants are encouraged to be aware of vehicle traffic at all times; do not pick up any sharp or otherwise hazardous items.
Do not leave trash on the side of the road. Rather, dispose of items appropriately in curbside trash receptacles.
Remember to wash hands thoroughly when finished.
Town leaders and staff members are grateful for everyone and every organization that makes the spring May River Cleanup and the fall Beach/River Sweep a success each year.
Mark your calendars for Sept. 19, 2020 for the Beach/River Sweep, which is a statewide event organized by the South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. The event will be held at the Oyster Factory Park.
