As of April 13, residents or organizations wishing to rent the Oyster Factory Park for a private event must process their request through the Town of Bluffton, rather than Beaufort County Parks and Leisure Services.

During the April 12 Town Council meeting, Council approved the rental fee schedule, which completed the transfer of the operations and maintenance of the park from Beaufort County.

The new rental fee schedule represents Council’s directive for lower fees for reserving the park for a private event.

“This is a public park and anyone is welcome to visit, picnic and enjoy,” Mayor Lisa Sulka said. “The fees only come into play if you want to reserve the park or a part of the park for an event.

“The town is currently investing approximately $879,000 to enhance the park with a two-lane boat ramp, a courtesy boat dock, accessible sidewalks, a wooden walkway, an observation deck and extended parking capacity for vehicles and boats,” Sulka said.

The mayor continued, “This transfer just makes sense due to the Town’s investment and more importantly, the key role Oyster Factory Park plays in our community.”

The transfer of the Oyster Factory Park to the Town will also include the management and maintenance of the Calhoun Street Dock.
