Dr. Linda Bell, South Carolina’s state epidemiologist, will be the keynote speaker for USCB Center for the Arts Women’s Wellness Week March 20-28, to be held  both in-person and virtually.

Women are invited to enrich their mental and spiritual wellness with workshops on journaling, meditation, stress prevention and time management.

Dr. Bell’s presentation will be held at 10 a.m. March 20 at the Center for the Arts, 801 Carteret St. in Beaufort. The event also will be streamed online.

Her topic is “Finding Our Way Out of the COVID-19 Pandemic.” The presentation will cover the impact of COVID-19 on individuals and communities, with prospects for controlling the pandemic.

“We’re honored to have Dr. Bell speak about a topic that is so relevant as we move forward toward the new normal,” said Bonnie Hargrove, USCB Center for the Arts director.

Bell trained in internal medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical school and has worked in public health for over 28 years including as an epidemic intelligence service officer with the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control and in several positions with DHEC.

She is currently the South Carolina state epidemiologist and director of the DHEC Bureau of Communicable Disease Prevention and Control.

Bell has been called “the face of the state public health agency’s fight against COVID-19” in the July 2020 edition of Charleston’s Free Times.
