With the uncertainty about how all of the COVID-19 precautions and adjustments will continue to impact our communities, and especially the confusion around the adjusted tax deadline, stimulus checks and such, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program has devised a new plan.
While its physical tax preparation sites are closed, VITA recently launched an IRS-approved, 100% secure method of preparing tax returns virtually through a combination of a secured teleconferencing web portal and over the telephone.
IRS-certified volunteers have been trained in this new protocol and VITA is officially open for business.
VITA is committed to being available to provide guidance and support to taxpayers during this uncertain time. Volunteers have been working hard behind the scenes to develop its virtual tax preparation option.

The Lowcountry VITA Coalition is made possible through the continued support of the IRS, United Way of the Lowcountry, and the Beaufort County Human Services Alliance.
