Applicants sought for Town Council boards, committees

Bluffton Town Council is seeking applicants to fill vacancies on several town boards and committees, including positions related to accommodations taxes, zoning, construction appeals and economic development.

The town identified immediate vacancies on the Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee, Board of Zoning Appeals, Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals, Don Ryan Center for Innovation Board of Directors and Wall of Honor Committee and a vacancy on the Public Art Committee.

The Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee has one vacancy for a member of the hospitality industry. The seven-member committee advises Town Council on the distribution and expenditure of accommodations tax revenue. A majority of its members must represent the hospitality industry, including two from the lodging industry and at least one from a cultural organization.

The five-member Board of Zoning Appeals has one vacancy for a town resident or a person who owns a business within Bluffton town limits. The board hears appeals of administrative zoning decisions and considers applications for variances and special exceptions.

The nine-member Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals has one vacancy for a licensed general contractor. The board hears and decides appeals of orders, decisions or determinations made by the building official.

The Don Ryan Center for Innovation Board of Directors has one vacancy. The Don Ryan Center for Innovation is a nonprofit corporation established by the town and serves as Bluffton’s economic development department.

The Wall of Honor Committee has two vacancies for town residents. The five-member committee advises Town Council by recommending citizens for inclusion on the Wall of Honor at the Theodore D. Washington Municipal Building.

The Public Arts Committee also has one vacancy for a town resident.
The town accepts applications for its boards, commissions and committees even when there are no current vacancies. Qualifications vary, although most appointments require applicants to live within the Town of Bluffton.
