The Beaufort County School District has named Carrie Carter as the new principal of May River High School for the upcoming school year.

Carter, who has served as assistant principal at May River High School since 2019, succeeds Dr. Karon Webb, who accepted a principal position with Lexington 1 School District.

Carter has 18 years of experience in secondary education, including 12 years with the Beaufort County School District. Before becoming assistant principal, she served as lead school counselor at May River High School and as a school counselor at Beaufort High School. She began her school counseling career at Fred T. Foard High School.
The district named Carter its secondary assistant principal of the year for 2023-24 and school counselor of the year for 2018-19.

She holds School Administration Licensure Certification from Gardner-Webb University, a master’s degree in community counseling with school licensure and a bachelor’s degree in human and community services from Lenoir-Rhyne College.

“Every exceptional district has strong school leaders, and I’m excited to see this superb educator be successful in her new role,” Superintendent Frank Rodriguez said.
