Family Promise of Beaufort County has received a $20,000 grant from Clayton to support efforts to prevent homelessness among families in the Lowcountry, the organization announced.
The funding is part of a $2 million contribution Clayton is distributing across the national Family Promise. The grant follows an extension of a partnership between the two organizations through an initiative known as “A Future Begins at Home,” which focuses on helping families remain in their homes and regain stability.
Since the initiative began in 2019, it has helped generate more than $14 million in additional funding and has served more than 43,000 families nationwide, according to Family Promise.
“This grant strengthens our diversion program, helping families find safe housing before they ever need to enter a shelter,” said John Trinh, executive director of Family Promise of Beaufort County. “By connecting them to community resources and short-term support, we can reduce trauma and keep families stable during critical moments.”
Family Promise of Beaufort County was founded in Bluffton in 2008. The organization provides prevention services, emergency shelter, housing and post-program stabilization for families. It operates what it describes as the only shelter program for children and their families in Beaufort and Jasper counties.
The organization reports it has served 1,150 individuals since its founding.
In addition to financial support, Clayton has donated 20 homes to the Family Promise national network since 2019. The homes are used primarily as transitional housing, allowing families to stay together while receiving case management and support services as they work toward permanent housing.
