Interactive comedy comes to Arts Center

Posted

The classroom is back in session this Halloween as “Late Nite Catechism: ’Til Death Do Us Part” comes to the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina for a performance Oct. 31.

The interactive comedy combines scripted humor, improvisation and audience participation, transforming the theater into a classroom where a quick-witted nun known as Sister leads the lesson.

In this installment of the long-running “Late Nite Catechism” comedy series, Sister turns her attention to marriage, relationships and the Catholic sacraments of marriage and last rites.

Audience members become part of the class, with Sister calling on unsuspecting students to answer questions and participate in discussions. The performance may also include a version of the Newlywed Game, with couples answering questions about their relationships.

The production draws on the traditions and experiences of Catholic education, but audiences do not need a Catholic background to enjoy the humor.

The show’s improvisational format allows Sister to interact directly with audience members, making their responses part of the performance.

“Late Nite Catechism: ’Til Death Do Us Part” is part of a comedy series that has been performed for audiences across the country. Its combination of religious humor, familiar classroom experiences and audience interaction has become a hallmark of the productions.

The Halloween performance will take place at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina on Hilton Head Island.
