A young dog’s fight to survive has become a story of community support after local donors helped fund a critical surgery through the Palmetto Animal League.
Quint, just over a year old, arrived at the rescue with a broken jaw that made it difficult to eat and caused ongoing weight loss. Without surgery, the injury could have required removal of his lower jaw, a procedure that would have significantly affected his quality of life.
The cost of surgery, estimated at $12,000, posed a major challenge. Staff at Palmetto Animal League launched a fundraising effort, turning to the community for help.
Support came quickly after the organization shared Quint’s story on social media. Donations began to arrive, and individuals helped expand the reach by sharing the campaign within their own networks. Matching donations from supporters further accelerated the effort, bringing the total within reach.
The fundraising success allowed Quint to undergo surgery April 2 in Savannah. According to the organization, the procedure was successful, and the dog is recovering.
Rescue officials say the response highlights the role the community plays in helping animals in need.
Palmetto Animal League, based in Bluffton, focuses on rescuing, treating and rehoming dogs and cats. The organization also offers affordable veterinary services and operates a thrift store to help support its programs.
For Quint, the outcome marks a turning point after weeks of uncertainty. With surgery complete and recovery underway, he is expected to have a healthier future.
