Bluffton Elementary School has dedicated its library to retired librarian Victoria V. Moody, recognizing her 26 years of service to the school and its students.

The school unveiled a commemorative plaque outside the library during a ceremony April 29, officially naming the space the Victoria V. Moody Library. District officials, school administrators, teachers, family members and friends attended the event alongside Moody.

“It’s a huge honor that’s really such a big deal in my heart,” Moody said during the ceremony. “I hope my name at the door serves to remind everyone of the importance of books and encourage a love of reading.”

Moody joined Bluffton Elementary when the school opened in 1999. She retired at the end of the 2024-25 school year after more than two decades at the school.

School officials said the dedication recognizes Moody’s influence on the school community and her efforts to create a welcoming library for students.

“I love this library. I love all libraries, and I hope everyone who sees it feels some love for libraries,” Moody said.

Principal Dr. Brandi Bullock said Moody remained committed to the library throughout years of changes in education, including evolving technology and shifting initiatives.

Moody’s 26 years at Bluffton Elementary, her dedication, resourcefulness, and passion for the library never did,” Bullock said. “Her legacy is one that will continue to inspire students and uplift the entire staff.”

Ryan Copeland, the district coordinator of library services, said Moody’s work helped establish the library as a central part of the school community.

“The Bluffton Elementary library has always been the heart of the school, and that’s a direct result of Vicky Moody’s deep care for her work, her students, and her commitment to leaving the library stronger than she found it,” Copeland said.

The plaque dedication marked the formal naming of the library in Moody’s honor. School officials said the event celebrated both her years of service and her commitment to encouraging reading among students.

Moody said she hopes the library continues to inspire students and visitors in the years ahead.
