Sterling Helicopter plans to open a new operations facility in Bluffton, a project expected to create 15 jobs over the next five years.
The aerospace engineering company will operate from 65 Innovation Drive in Buckwalter Place. According to the company, the Bluffton location will support its engineering services for Part 23, 25, 27 and 29 aircraft.
The project received financial support from local economic development partners. The Beaufort County Economic Development Corporation awarded a $7,500 grant to assist with upfitting the company’s new facility. The Town of Bluffton also approved $14,500 in reimbursable grants to offset business license fees and Beaufort-Jasper Water & Sewer Authority fees.
Edward Allen, Sterling Helicopter’s director of engineering, said the Bluffton location represents an expansion of the company’s operations.
“We are excited to expand our presence into Bluffton and become part of such a vibrant and growing community,” Allen said. He said the new location reflects the company’s continued growth and commitment to aviation safety and customer service.
Bluffton Mayor Larry Toomer said the town welcomed Sterling Helicopter’s decision to locate in Bluffton and noted the project is expected to create approximately 15 jobs.
“Companies like Sterling Helicopter bring high-quality jobs, investment and specialized expertise that strengthen our local economy and expand opportunities for residents,” Toomer said. He said the town supported the project through its Economic Development Incentive Program.
John O’Toole, executive director of the Beaufort County Economic Development Corporation, said the company’s investment will contribute to economic growth and employment opportunities in Beaufort County.
“Sterling Helicopter’s investment is another example of the type of business growth that strengthens our local economy and creates quality job opportunities for Beaufort County residents,” O’Toole said.
According to the release, the project reflects cooperation among local partners to support business investment and job creation in Beaufort County.
